Clean Air Zone Compliant Hiab Hire

Our Euro 6 fleet operates in every current UK Clean Air Zone and London’s ULEZ without daily charges — so you never face a surprise surcharge on your hiab quote.

What Are Clean Air Zones?

CAZ Charges and What They Mean for HGV Operators

Clean Air Zones (CAZ) are defined areas in UK cities where vehicles that do not meet a minimum emission standard are charged a daily fee to enter. For heavy goods vehicles — lorries, including hiab crane lorries — the daily charge for non-compliant vehicles can reach £50–£100 depending on the city.

These charges are paid by the vehicle operator, and some hauliers pass them directly to customers as a line item on the invoice. If you book a hiab lorry from an operator running older, non-Euro 6 vehicles, you may find unexpected CAZ surcharges added after the job.

Our fleet runs on Euro 6, which is the compliance threshold for HGVs across all current UK Clean Air Zones. We do not incur daily CAZ charges, and we do not pass them on.

  • Euro 6 diesel fleet — exempt from all current English CAZ daily charges
  • No CAZ or ULEZ surcharges added to customer quotes
  • Nationwide coverage including all CAZ cities and London
  • FORS Bronze accreditation confirms ongoing fleet compliance

Bradford’s CAZ covers the city centre and applies to taxis, private hire vehicles, HGVs and buses that do not meet the relevant emission standard.

Non-compliant HGV charge: £100/day

London (ULEZ)

London’s Ultra Low Emission Zone covers the entire Greater London area. HGVs must meet Euro 6 diesel to be exempt. The ULEZ operates 24 hours a day, every day of the year.

Non-compliant HGV charge: £100/day (TfL)

Portsmouth

Portsmouth’s CAZ applies to taxis, private hire vehicles, HGVs, buses and coaches. Private cars are not charged. The zone covers the city centre area.

The Tyneside CAZ covers both Newcastle and Gateshead city centres. It is a Class B zone charging non-compliant taxis, private hire vehicles, buses, coaches and HGVs.

Non-compliant HGV charge: £50/day

Scotland (LEZ)

Scotland operates Low Emission Zones (LEZs) rather than CAZs in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow. The rules and enforcement phases vary by city but HGVs are affected.

Our Approach

Euro 6 as Standard — Not an Upgrade

Some operators offer “CAZ compliant vehicles” as a premium option or charge extra for jobs in emission zones. We treat Euro 6 compliance as a baseline — it is built into our fleet, not an add-on.

This approach reflects our FORS Bronze accreditation, which requires ongoing fleet management including emissions monitoring and a commitment to reducing the environmental impact of our operations. Our lorries are not compliant by accident — compliance is a deliberate, managed part of how we run the business.

For customers, this simplifies budgeting: the quote you receive is the amount you pay. There is no mechanism for adding a CAZ surcharge after the fact because our vehicles do not attract one.

  • Euro 6 standard built into our fleet — not charged as an extra
  • Emissions management is part of our FORS Bronze obligations
  • All-in fixed pricing means no post-job CAZ additions
  • Covers all current CAZ and LEZ cities in England and Scotland

FAQs

Clean Air Zone Questions

Will I be charged extra if my site is in a Clean Air Zone?

No. Because our fleet meets the Euro 6 standard, our lorries do not incur daily charges in any current UK Clean Air Zone. We do not add CAZ surcharges to quotes. The price we give you is the price you pay, regardless of whether your site is in Bath, Birmingham, Bristol, London or any other CAZ city.

Which UK cities currently have a Clean Air Zone that charges HGVs?

As of 2026, the cities with active Clean Air Zones charging HGVs in England are Bath, Birmingham, Bradford, Bristol, Portsmouth, Sheffield and Tyneside (Newcastle and Gateshead). London operates its Ultra Low Emission Zone (ULEZ). Scotland has Low Emission Zones in Aberdeen, Dundee, Edinburgh and Glasgow.

What emission standard do HGVs need to be exempt from CAZ charges?

Heavy goods vehicles generally need to meet the Euro 6 diesel emission standard to be exempt from Clean Air Zone charges. Lorries registered from around 2014 onwards are typically Euro 6. Our fleet is maintained to this standard — if you need written confirmation for a project or procurement requirement, contact us and we can provide it.

Does your fleet cover London and the ULEZ?

Yes. London's Ultra Low Emission Zone covers the entire Greater London area. Our Euro 6 lorries are compliant and can operate throughout London — from dockside container lifts to city-centre machinery deliveries — without ULEZ daily charges.

What if a new Clean Air Zone is introduced in a city I need deliveries to?

Our fleet is built to Euro 6, which is the current compliance standard for all active and proposed UK Clean Air Zones. If your location falls under a new scheme, our vehicles are already compliant. We keep our fleet up to date precisely to avoid compliance gaps — both for our customers and as part of our FORS Bronze fleet obligations.
